Victor Oladipo To Participate In All-Star Slam Dunk Contest

Boston Celtics forward Al Horford

Gordon has declared that this will be his last dunk contest and is looking to make up for his disappointment from previous year.

"NBA All-Star Victor Oladipo of the Indiana Pacers, 2016 runner-up Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic and first-time participants Larry Nance Jr. of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dennis Smith Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks will display their aerial creativity in the 2018 Verizon Slam Dunk on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Staples Center in Los Angeles", the Lakers said in a statement on their team's website.

This will be the third straight appearance for Aaron Gordon, who shocked the world when he went toe-to-toe with LaVine in Toronto and established himself as the NBA's premier dunk contest big man. I spent a lot of time growing up in the Bay (Area).

In a photo posted on the Lakers' official Twitter account, Nance Jr. gave his father plenty of praise with his epic shirt selection. After watching each of the videos, it will likely become clear that the competition will not be easy for Oladipo and that the National Basketball Association chose some seriously gifted players for this event.

All four competitors get two dunks in the first round. Maybe it's because my expectations were so high, but he'll get a mulligan this year and should be one of the fan favourites.

But the Lakers forward is an accomplished dunker in his own right, and in his third season has already earned a reputation for putting opponents on posters. While reports surfaced a couple weeks ago that rookie guard Dennis Smith Jr. would be showing off his hops in this year's dunk contest, we now know who he'll be joining. And, thankfully, we won't have to wait long to put that to the test. But Saturday has the dunk contest, and memories of a good dunk contest will outlast anything else. Check back to Sportsnet.ca for a thorough preview as all-star weekend approaches.
