Apple considers iPhone battery replacement rebates

After acknowledging that it hampers performance on older iPhone models with degraded batteries, Apple has been struggling to regain its footing.

Battery life has always been a controversial issue for iPhone users.

Registered developers can download and install the new iOS 11.3 beta 2 via Apple's Developer Center OTA from Settings Software Update or those who are already members and have the beta profile installed on their 64 bit iOS devices can install iOS 11.3 beta 2.

The Washington Post reported Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, also sent a letter to Apple asking for more information.

KGI said back in October of last year it was likely that Apple would bring Face ID to all three of this year's new iPhone models, and this is supported by two new supply-chain reports today.

An older iPhone was seen in Washington in 2013.

But there's a way you can tell if your iPhone is being throttled.

In response to the controversy surrounding Apple admitting that it slows down the processor speed of older iPhones when their batteries degrade to the point that they're no longer able to deliver peak performance, the company has added the ability for users to toggle throttling on and off.

Taking a more optimistic view of Apple's iPhone prospects, well-regarded analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is of the mind that the real iPhone super cycle will get underway later this year when Apple releases its 2018 iPhone lineup, which will include a 6.1-inch device with an edgeless LCD display. As he explains it, if current iPhone owners can simply receive a brand new battery for $29 - and in effect get a device that's as good as new - the impetus to upgrade to a new device entirely is necessarily diminished. If you want to receive the beta you can sign up to receive them. "This feature applies to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus".

The company also said its newly announced operating system will let users turn off the software feature that slows performance and check a phone's battery's condition. However, if your iPhone does randomly shut down due to battery health and performance issues, this feature will automatically enable itself once again to prevent future shutdowns.
