Apple investigating exploding AirPod claim

Apple is investigating why one AirPod caught on fire in Florida

We would, however, welcome a set of small buttons on one or both of the AirPods' stems to skip or replay tracks and change the volume while exercising, as Siri voice commands are just not suitable during exercise.

A man in Florida claims that one of his Apple AirPods began smoking and later exploded.

NBC News reported yesterday that "Jason Colon, of Tampa, was listening to a dance mix at the LA Fitness on 4th Street in St. Petersburg when he noticed something odd".

"I don't know what would've happened to my ear", Colon said. He left the AirPod on a piece of workout equipment to get help.

But when he returned, the report continues, Colton was shocked to learn that his left AirPod had completely burnt to a crisp - though the right AirPod remained in-tact.

Overall, the audio standard and brilliant pairing and charging technologies make AirPods an attractive prospect for Apple fans looking to invest in new wireless headphones for use across the entire product range.

"It was already popped", he said. "You can see flame damage", Colon told a local news station.

This is the first time AirPods have made headlines for exploding, so it doesn't appear to be a widespread issue. An Apple spokesman told WFLA that it was investigating the incident and would reach out to Colon.

They're not flawless, but for a first generation product, they're pretty good. The lithium-ion batteries in the phones could overheat and pose a safety risk, the company said after it had received a few dozen reports of Note 7 batteries catching on fire.

While we have experienced many situations where devices such as smartphones would blow up, the majority of them were the Galaxy Note 7 devices.
