Boston Herald Apologizes For 'Erroneous Report' On Brady's Contract

"The dominoes are about to continue their Foxboro free fall".

However, WEEI, a local radio station in Boston, revealed that one of its listeners was the so-called "source" who sent Borges a text claiming to be Brady's agent, Don Yee, which led to the bogus article. "Tom Brady wants to get paid", Borges wrote.

The Globe suspended Borges March 5 for lifting numerous passages from a February 25 article written by Mike Sando of The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash. for one of his Sunday Globe "Football notes" columns.

Earlier Thursday, Garoppolo signed a record-breaking, five-year contract with the 49ers that will pay him a reported $137.5 million to keep him off the free-agent market next month without forcing the team to use its one-year franchise tag. Many reports said that $74 million of that is guaranteed.

Shortly after the story's publication, other members of the Patriots media sphere that the story was untrue (or "off the reservation"). The column and its misled reporting were plastered all over the front and back pages of the Friday edition of the paper.

Regarding the issue with Borges' sourcing on the piece, the Herald's sports editor Sean Leahy told Pro Football Talk that they were "looking into it".

"A column by Ron Borges in today's Herald regarding Patriot Tom Brady's salary discussions was based on information which proved to be false", the statement, published Friday afternoon, read.

The Boston Herald has pulled Borges' column off its website and says it is investigating the matter.
