ICE Arrests Over 150 Illegal Immigrants After Dem Mayor Sent Out Warning

ICE raids nab 150 in California after Oakland mayor's warning

The mayor warned residents Saturday night of large-scale raids by immigration agents in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As Black History Month wrapped up, ICE officials paid tribute to the early contribution to the organization by Barbados-born David Augustus Straker, one of the first men of color to serve in the legacy agencies of ICE.

"Who doesn't know that there is increased immigration enforcement?"

"Because these jurisdictions prevent ICE from arresting criminal aliens in the secure confines of a jail, they also force ICE officers to make more arrests out in the community, which poses increased risks for law enforcement and the public".

Other arrests include: In Sacramento, a citizen of Mexico, who has criminal convictions for possession of a risky weapon, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, DUI, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, burglary, threatening with intent to terrorize, battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

ICE agents arrest 150 in Oakland, California despite the mayor's warning.

The mayor's move endangered ICE officers and alerted their targets, Homan asserted, "making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda".

"What she did is no better than a gang lookout yelling "police" when a police cruiser comes in the neighborhood, except she did it to a whole community", Homan told "Fox & Friends".

"I know that Oakland is a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation", she said in a statement that circulated widely on social media over the weekend. "It's hard for me to think of what charge you could bring against her".

The ICE statement also called out sanctuary cities, including San Francisco and Oakland, as creating a danger for ICE enforcement agents and communities, and increasing "collateral arrests" of those not targeted by immigration officials.

At least half of those arrested as of Tuesday did not have criminal convictions other than their immigration violations, according to a statement from ICE.

In a February 27 statement, Homan suggested the sweep targeted so-called "sanctuary cities" that limit cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement. Sharif Zakout, with the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, said many of those locked together are the children of immigrants and as such it was important to stand in solidarity with those in ICE custody.

"These are American heroes, that strap a gun to their hip every day to defend this nation, and to tell the criminals that we're coming in the next 24 hours, is just incredible", the director went on to say.

Without legal representation, some detainees may agree to leave the USA voluntarily and waive their right to make a case for asylum or other deportation relief before an immigration judge. Schaaf said one third of Oakland's population is made up of immigrants. Homan claims ICE was seeking 864 "criminal aliens", but detained just over 150 in the raid. Homan, who accused Giordano of endangering public safety, also suggested Gonzalez was to blame for the conflagrations. "They committed not a single crime, and they were deported by this administration which has ended their deferral policy".

In astatement Tuesday, Schaaf defended her warning to illegal immigrants.

And that gives her hope.

"What is happening does not match our humanity", Diana Flores, a staffer at Dolores Street Community Services, said to the crowd.
