Texans Deny Report Saying They Won't Sign Players Who Protested the Anthem

The report comes on the heels of a second season of players protesting during the playing of the national anthem.

The Texans also made waves a year ago when owner Bob McNair said during an ownership meeting, "we can't have the inmates running the prison".

Two NFL agents told the Houston Chronicle that the Texans "aren't interested" in any players who have knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

However, he backtracked on Tuesday and insisted that his comments had been "misconstrued" but conceded that he believes kneeling is an ineffective form of protest.

Citing conversations with two anonymous agents, The Houston Chronicle reported Saturday that while "there is no directive within the organization", it is understood that the Texans are not considering free agents who have participated in the protests, or draft prospects who would be likely to do so.

"The Texans ownership, coaching, personnel and executive staff sign and hire employees based on talent, character and fit within our organisation".

Of course, Colin Kaepernick is still an National Football League free agent.

"I've shared my opinion with all our players: I'm passionate about the cause of social justice and I feel that kneeling is an ineffective tactic that alienates more people than it enlists", Ross said.

The NFL's player protests were a major story early in the 2017 season.

Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick filed a grievance in October alleging the NFL and team owners have colluded to keep him out of the league as a result of his role in the protest movement.
