Riyad Mahrez explains his regrets over failed move to Man City

Riyad Mahrez has said his failed Manchester City move is "in the past" and insists he is happy to still be a Leicester City player.

The Algeria worldwide was absent for two Leicester City matches after missing out on joining the Premier League leaders, who reportedly made a £60 million (A$106.40 million) offer on deadline day two months ago.

Mahrez had reportedly agreed to join Roma last summer but a deal between the two clubs could not be struck as Leicester placed a hefty price-tag on his head, and the Italian outlet claims the Serie A side have again made contact with the player and have already agreed to personal terms. I don't really want to talk about this because it's in the past.

"We will see in the summer if something comes, but at the moment I'm a Leicester City player and I'm good here".

"It was hard but I spoke to the players, the manager, everyone".

Mahrez was coy and diplomatic when posed the question about his summer plans.

"You always have regrets, at that time I thought it was the best thing to do".

"In football players come, players leave".

Mahrez was absent from training during the final stages of the transfer window. So my mind and my focus is on Leicester.

"That is all I am focused on, so the transfer window, I don't want to talk about it". "I'm not saying I'm coming or going".

"To be honest the club handled it very good as well".

"Now I'm moving forward, trying to give my best for the team, and that's most important".

The situation has since been cleared up, with a club spokesperson telling Goal: "It's not a genuine post and we're working with Facebook to have it removed".

Mahrez also brushed off the hoax retirement announcement posted on his Facebook page this week.
