BJD yet to decide on no-confidence motion against NDA govt

Budget Session of Parliament Lok Sabha Rajya Sabha adjourned for ninth day as protests continue

He said the TDP was looking for a debate in the House on how the government was denying justice to Andhra Pradesh.

The no-confidence motion against the government, which was pitched by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party, was not taken up by Lok Sabha, which was was adjourned for the day because of the protests by lawmakers. The motion can be accepted only if it has the support of at least 50 members in the House.

The AIADMK members are protesting outside the Parliament demanding the central government to set up the CMB and CWRC. The Speaker clarified that No Confidence Motion can be taken up only when the house is in order but certain party MPs continued their protests. "But can not do that unless the house is in order", said Mahajan before adjourning the House. Naidu said TDP waited for four years, but it was of no use.

"It's the responsibility of all the parties to support us".

Similarly in 1999, AIADMK, led by then mercurial chief minister J Jayalalitha, walked out of the NDA and forced a non-confidence motion.

"Nitish Kumar was made to leave (the alliance with RJD leader) Lalu Prasad with the promise of a special status to Bihar". A joint parliamentary committee formed to investigate the issue submitted its report to the Lok Sabha on 15 December 2008, after finding no evidence for bribery.

The government, meanwhile, has expressed confidence that the notices, even if they are admitted, will be defeated given its strength in Lok Sabha. The Shiv Sena which is the BJP's oldest ally has been the most vocal and critical of the BJP. They are taking a neutral position on the issue, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant told Indian news agency ANI.

TDP has been unhappy since the demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh - promised by the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh during the bifurcation of Telangana in 2014 - was turned down by the government.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day without transacting any business after parties from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh disrupted proceedings over their state-specific demands. Last week, the Lok Sabha had passed the Finance Bill and the appropriation bills without any discussion amid similar protests. Find us on Facebook too!
