US Optimistic on Crown Prince's Visit Opening New Areas of Cooperation

Prince Mohammed capped his rapid rise to power last June by replacing his elder cousin Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who had close relationships with USA intelligence and defence circles, as crown prince.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman says that the United States and Saudi Arabia can tackle "a lot of things" together in the future. The United States embrace that with open arms as military equipment sale to Saudi Arabia will create 40,000 American jobs.

Trump's focus on Saudi purchases of USA military equipment came amid a bipartisan effort to limit the United States' role in Yemen's civil war and protests in several U.S. cities over the Saudi-led invasion, which has contributed to a humanitarian crisis.

"Tremendous investments made in our country and that means jobs for our workers", Trump told reporters during a picture-taking session with the crown prince. Mohammed was opening a two-week, coast-to-coast swing, including stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco, as he seeks business ties with American oil, technology and entertainment companies.

Showing a sign to journalists at the meeting that read "12.5 billion in finalized sales to Saudi Arabia", Trump boasted about all the money that USA defense contractors would be getting for their products. Some members of Congress have been critical of the Saudi campaign, particularly the humanitarian situation and civilian casualties. Robert Menendez, N.J., the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called for a political solution.

Another point of friction is the war in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia leads a coalition fighting the Huthi rebels, who are allegedly backed by Iran.

Images of the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen prompted Trump previous year to issue a rare rebuke of Saudi policy, urging the kingdom to lift a blockade on the civil war-wracked country "immediately".

The two sides also discussed Vision 2030 and the Kingdom's drive for economic diversification.

Crown Prince Mohammed and Kushner have forged a close relationship, which has at times come under criticism in Washington for circumventing normal diplomatic channels.

"He (bin Salman) could not use such amateurish lies to hide the role of Saudi Arabia's government and leaders in creating the most risky terrorist groups in modern history and in major terrorist incidents like the September 11 (attacks)", Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency.

Prince Mohammed capped his rapid rise to power last June by replacing his elder cousin Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who had close relationships with US intelligence and defence circles, as crown prince. He is likely to rule for many decades if he succeeds his father.

"You were the crown prince, and now you are beyond the crown prince", he said, before adding that he missed Mohammed's father, King Salman, and hoped to see him soon.

The crown prince said Saudi Arabia has made a decision to double its investment in USA businesses to $400 billion in just one year.
