Nonagricultural wage and salary employment rose to 5,566,400 in February from a revised 5,553,000 in January, the state data show.

"Maine has reached not only a record-low unemployment rate, but more important, we have a record-high number of private sector jobs and workers are earning more", said Governor LePage.

Of the 63,995 increase in the labor force since February 2017, 78,050 has come from the employed ranks, while there were 14,055 fewer listed on the unemployed ranks. Higher education and health services added another 2,200 jobs, led by increased employment at universities and professional schools. Trade, transportation and utilities saw the largest monthly decrease, shedding 3,100 positions.

From February 2017 to February 2018, BLS estimates MA has added 39,100 jobs.

During the 1999 period, the state's labor force participation rate was almost 73 percent. "At the same time, the unemployment rate has declined to an 11-year low". In the third quarter of 2017, average weekly wages were down 1.1 percent over the previous year, ranking 28th among the states.

Alaska's not-seasonally adjusted rate was 8.2 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point from January. This measures the he ratio of the labor force now employed to the total working-age population.

Minnesota gained 22,626 jobs the past year, for a 0.8 percent growth rate. Over the year, Government lost 1,300 (-0.3%) jobs.

"Illinois job growth is starting the year off with stronger momentum as average growth has picked up in early 2018", Illinois Department of Employment Security Director Jeff Mays said. The unemployment rate remained at 3.5 percent for the fifth consecutive month.

Virginia has the second lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate among the Southeast states behind Tennessee which has a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.4 percent. "The USA job growth rate was 1.57 percent". The number of unemployed continued to drop, declining 4,239 to 149,720. The expansion pushed Virginia's total labor force to 4.3 million, a new record.

The Massachusetts unemployment rate has improved over the a year ago.
