Here come the Chrome OS-powered tablets

Above Acer unveils the Chromebook Tab

The tablet will be launching in North America this April at a price of $329 and in the European market this May at a price of €329.

Acer launched Chromebook Tab 10 on Monday to take on Apple's upcoming iPad which the company is expected to launch at company's education based event scheduled for today.

Despite this first Chromebook tablet being aimed at students and the classroom, Google hasn't really changed up how Chrome OS looks or feels in the tablet form factor.

PC-maker Acer has announced the Chromebook Tab 10, a 9.7-inch tablet with a built-in stylus that starts at $329-the same price as Apple's current cheapest iPad.

In terms of those physical dimensions, Acer has confirmed the Chromebook Tab 10 measures 6.78-inches in width, 9.38-inches in depth, and 0.39-inches in height; while weighing in at 1.21 pounds (550 grams).

To give students additional ways to interact with the Acer Chromebook Tab 10, the device comes standard with a Wacom EMR stylus.

Under the hood you'll find an OP1 CPU that bonds dual-core Cortex-A72 and quad-core Cortex-A53 silicon, plus 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. When compared to the iPad, the Chromebook is actually a bit heavier and also a bit thicker.

Acer also claims users can expect up to 9 hours of battery life to last students through the day. The stylus also doesn't need charging or pairing. Is the Chromebook tab 10 worth purchasing and using for a school environment? Before Chromebook tablet, Google had Pixel C, an Android tablet. Additionally, the Tab 10 supports augmented reality in the classroom such as Google's Expeditions AR. The rear 5MP camera enables students to capture video and images.

Google rolled out the first official Android tablets in 2011, and consumers seemed at least somewhat interested for a few years.

Acer is touting the tablet as a flawless learning device for students in K-12 and its ease of deployment for school IT admins. The North American launch would be followed by Europe, Middle East and Africa in May for €329, including Value-Added Tax. Even though this is just another one, Acer has stated that the Chromebook Tab 10 has been created to be slim and lightweight in order for it to be suitable for a classroom.
