Malala Yousafzai returns to hometown in Pakistan

Security high in Pakistan's Swat but Nobelist's visit uncertain

On her return to Pakistan for the first time since a Taliban gunman shot her in the head for advocating girls' education, Nobel Peace Prize victor Malala Yousafzai expressed her happiness.

The 20-year-old global figure visited her home in the valley and broke down in tears before she proceeded to visit Cadet College and Fizagat Park.

Yousafzai, who is now studying politics, philosophy, and economics at Oxford University, England, upon her arrival, described her hometown as the most lovely place on earth.

The Associated Press Pakistan's Nobel Peace Prize victor Malala Yousafzai, second right, poses for photograph with her family members and Pakistan Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, left, at her native home during a visit to Mingora, the main town of Pakistan's Swat Valley on Saturday.

She said she plans to permanently return to Pakistan after completing her studies in the UK.

It is unclear if Yousafzai will visit her native village in the neighbouring district of Shangla, located about 35km from Mingora, where her Malala Fund has helped build a new secondary school for children in the area.

Malala was quoted as saying that she was happy to return in Swat Valley.

The Taliban claimed responsibility in 2012 for the attack on Ms. Yousafzai for her outspoken advocacy for girls' education, which was forbidden under the militants' rule over Swat.

She received initial treatment in Pakistan and was later taken to Britain, where she continued her education and went on to win the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest-ever prize victor and garnering global renown.

"It is my country and I have equal rights in it like any other Pakistani", she said.

"I left Swat with my eyes closed and now I'm back with m open", he has affirmed Nobel Peace Prize Malate Yousafzai at a Swat school in region, very close to Mingoa, his hometown in norastern Pakistan where he was shoted in 2012 by Taliban. I've never been so happy before.

Malala's uncle, Mahmoodul Hassan, said she also plans to meet with her friends and relatives during her homecoming. The Taliban later said it had carried out the attack for her promotion of liberalism.

The organiser of the protest, Kashif Mirza, said dozens of private school chains participated and teachers told students in classes "that Malala does not represent true Pakistan".

"Those who do criticise have an absurd kind of criticism that doesn't make any sense", she said in an interview with Pakistan's The News English-language newspaper published on Saturday.

Her schedule is being kept tightly under wraps out of security fears, which Yusufzai said was telling. Two other girls had also sustained gunshot wounds. She was hit in the head, but survived the attack and was airlifted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi, where she had several surgeries before she was flown to the United Kingdom for advanced treatment.

Malala said there was "definitely a difference between the Pakistan of today and in 2012".

She strongly advocated education through her diary, which was written under the pseudonym "Gul Mukai" and featured on BBC Urdu.

Roads were blocked off in the town of Mingora as Yousafzai, known universally by her first name, flew in by military helicopter with her parents and brother.
