TV host apologizes to Parkland student

Laura Ingraham, Facing Boycott, Apologizes for Taunting Parkland Survivor David Hogg

Fox News host Laura Ingraham (left) and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg.

The dispute began Wednesday, when Ingraham shared an article about how the student, David Hogg, 17, had been rejected from several colleges, and she accused him of whining about it.

"I'll be off next week for Easter break with my kids, but fear not, we've got a great line-up of guests hosts to fill in for me", Ingraham said at the end of her Friday show. Companies at that time were pushing Fox to pull their ads from O'Reilly's show following a New York Times report detailing numerous sexual harassment settlements he had paid out.

A few moments before wheels up on Laura Ingraham's Easter vacation Saturday morning, she tweeted a preflight picture of a holiday-themed drawing made by one of her sons.

"As a company, we support open dialogue and debate on issues", a spokeswoman for the home goods retailer Wayfair said. Hogg urged his Twitter followers to contact Ingraham's advertisers and several big name sponsors withdrew their advertising. After Sean Hannity supported Alabama judge Roy Moore in his campaign for the US senate, five companies removed their ads, including Keurig.

Facing pressure, Ingraham wrote an apology on Thursday afternoon, saying: "On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the courageous victims of Parkland". I will only accept your apology only if you denounce the way your network has treated my friends and I in this fight.

- Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) March 29, 2018I 100% agree an apology in an effort just to save your advertisers is not enough. It's time to love thy neighbor, not mudsling at children.

The move followed intense criticism of the conservative host after she mocked a survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

After Hogg targeted Ingraham's advertisers, they've gradually been dropping like flies from the Fox News show.

"As always, he's welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion".

The Ingraham Angle is one of the highest-rated cable news programs on television.
