Widow of Pulse nightclub gunman acquitted of all charges in 2016 attack

Pulse nightclub shooter's initial target was Disney site, prosecutors say

And there was plenty of reason to assume that Noor Salman's case wouldn't be an exception: The 31-year-old widow of Pulse Nightclub shooter Omar Mateen had confessed to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents that she'd known about her husband's intention to carry out a terrorist attack in the name of ISIS and had gone with him to scout out the nightclub as a possible location.

Noor Salman found not guilty of obstruction of justice and providing material support to her husband in 2016 attack.

Mateen, 29, who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group in a 911 call during the attack, was killed in a shootout when police stormed the building.

They asked several questions, including about the statement Salman made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"I'm in shock. I think that she knew that he was up to something", said Neema Bahrami, an event manager at the nightclub who survived the shooting while his best friend was killed.

"We can never bring back the 49 innocent victims whose lives were taken on June 12, 2016, or erase the pain that the horrific act brought to so many, but we remain focused on helping the victims and family members continue the healing process", Dyer said in a statement.

Hernandez was shot eight times when Omar Mateen opened fire on the crows. In the statement, Salman said over "the last two years, Omar talked to me about jihad".

Christine Leinonen, an attorney and former state trooper whose only son was killed in the nightclub massacre, told The Orlando Sentinel she was disappointed but not shocked by the verdict.

"She doesn't go to the mosque, she searches for Hello Kitty on her website", Swift said in closing arguments.

They also told the court that Ms Salman and Mateen scouted out potential targets together - including Disney World's shopping and entertainment complex - and she knew he was buying ammunition for his AR-15 in preparation for an attack. The jury had been provided with a signed confession that said she helped her husband.

Fellow defense attorney Charles Swift said he was impressed with the jury's attentiveness and the seriousness that they showed during the trial. According to Buzzfeed News, Noor Salman was acquitted of assisting in one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history.

Salman sobbed after the "not guilty" verdict was read, as did her relatives, including her uncle Al Salman. "Her only sin is she married a monster", Moreno said.

She also claimed that she was physically abused by Mateen.

Salman's attorneys said they would not discuss when their client would be released.

"Nothing harmful would come out of her", a friend of Salman's who was identified only as Ms. Ahmed told jurors, according to CNN affiliate WKGM. Authorities had questioned her for 11 hours.

The revelation threatened to upend the case against Salman, but the judge denied the motion, saying it was not relevant.

Sweeney said Mateen's initial plan was to attack Disney Springs, a commercial district adjacent to Disney World.

The defense also argued that Mateen had concealed aspects of his life from Salman, so she would not have known what he would do.
