Free stream NCAA championship Villanova Michigan March Madness

Michigan head coach John Beilein talks to Zavier Simpson during the second half in the semifinals of the Final Four NCAA college basketball tournament against Loyola-Chicago Saturday

The Wolverines are seeking their first national championship since 1989.

MI is the nation's No. 3 team in defensive efficiency and has held its five NCAA Tournament opponents to an average of 58.6 points per game.

Instead of trying to hold Wagner to zero points, Jay Wright is hoping the Wildcats can minimize his impact, as the MI man hits a few field goals, per Land of 10's Stephen Pianovich. These are good stats for the Wildcat's star. That included back-to-back showdowns against No. 2 seed Duke and then No. 1 seed Kansas in this past weekend's Final Four matchup.

The Wolverines have made a shift in recent years, transforming into one of the nation's best defensive teams. MI is one of the nation's largest public colleges, and the number of undergraduates attending its Ann Arbor campus is more than four times that of Villanova's campus in Radnor. Having flown under the radar for much of the season, the Wolverines did not make an appearance in the AP Top 25 until the week of January 22. If you have three guys who shoot as well as three of their players do, you'll probably beat just about anybody out there. Four of the past six NCAA tournament championship games have gone under, doing so by an average of 12.1 points. They run a strong perimeter defense and don't rely too heavily on one player to get the job done. "The 6'11" junior was born in Berlin, Germany and has enjoyed an excellent Tournament thus far. Still, for their part, Loyola Chicago controlled tempo in the middle of the game and had a legitimate chance of winning until they blew their 10-point second half lead. You just have got to hope you can minimize his influence on the game.

Their next task: find some way to slow Villanova's 3-ball roll.

"That really surprises me because a lot of things we still do defensively, we picked up watching Coach (Jerry) Tarkanian's teams with (former UNLV assistant) Tim Grgurich", said Wright, himself a former UNLV assistant under the late Rollie Massimino. "He's very unique. He's got a diverse skillset similar to that of a guard".

"This is the Golden State Warriors here", Wolverines coach John Beilein said. Each team won their semifinal game by double digits, but in differing ways.

The 3-point line will undoubtedly make the difference in the game. In fact, coming into Monday's game, Abdur-Rahkman possesses the second best assist to turnover ratio in the country at 4.4:1. The longer a player remains at Villanova, the better he becomes at executing the attack that has college basketball on its collective and defensive heels right now.

For the kids in maize and blue, they are on the other end this time. "They're stepping up for each other".

Villanova: Jay Wright's team has yet to struggle in this tournament.

THE SIDEKICKS: Wagner and Brunson are the headliners for their teams, but both have excellent sidekicks.
