Ravens sign former Redskins, Browns QB RGIII

Baltimore Ravens sign former Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III

They announced on Wednesday the signing of former Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Griffin will likely be the second quarterback on the depth chart for the Ravens; behind Joe Flacco and ahead of third-year quarterback, Josh Woodrum.

The Ravens signing RGIII shouldn't preclude Baltimore from possibly drafting a young signal-caller this year. "He will probably be here early next week to sign the deal", Newsome said. After the Browns released him after one year in 2016, he was out of football for the entire 2017 season. He started just five games before spending time on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. The former #2 overall pick had a great rookie year, but struggled after that following injuries. "We felt like we needed a No. 2 QB", Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. Obviously, his personality, he's a confident guy.

Griffin hasn't played since the 2016 season. "I really feel that way".

The following season Griffin was set back by a dislocated ankle and sustaining a concussion during the 2015 preseason. Between his regressions and being unable to stay healthy, the Redskins made a decision to move on to quarterback Kirk Cousins who was drafted in the fourth round in the same draft.

RG3 returned in 2013 but was benched after throwing 16 TD passes and 13 interceptions. "He really wanted to be a Raven".

According to reports, the Ravens initially brought Griffin in to throw to receivers, and then invited him back for a meeting before signing him late April 3. "I believe our players are going to love the fact that he's here; they like him as a person".
