Oxlade-Chamberlain Calls Anfield Atmosphere the Best He's Ever Played In

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain celebrates his goal

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised the Anfield crowd after the Reds defeated Manchester City 3-0 earlier this week.

The England worldwide found the net for the second time against City this season at Anfield, having also scored from distance in Liverpool's 4-3 Premier League triumph back in January.

"It definitely shows why I wanted to come here and I want to keep improving".

The midfielder notched Liverpool's second in the midweek Champions League victory over City, scoring with a long-range thunderbolt as the Reds ran out 3-0 winners in the first leg.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was, in truth, being unduly harsh on himself but, equally, there was something refreshing about listening to this articulate 24-year-old talk with such maturity and candour.

The midfielder claimed that Liverpool's clean-sheet was nearly as important as their goals and speaking to RTÉ Sport he said: "The nil is always massive, it gives us a great chance to get there and get a goal and that sets us up to see it home".

"But we've got a great squad and I'm sure we can go there [to the Etihad Stadium] and put in a good performance". That gives you the opportunity to do things you're not used to, and that's what helped him. But I wasn't too happy [with my performance].

"I feel it was the right time". "This was one of those nights where, had I not scored, I would have been disappointed in myself but ultimately if the team wins, especially in a game like that, I am obviously happy". "I've been working on that, on trying to do it more often".

Thierry Henry, former Arsenal striker and coach, was just one of Oxlade-Chamberlain's critics. He also claimed Jürgen Klopp's team were ideally suited to the Champions League and the latter stages in particular. A pattern emerged of one good game followed by three or four hugely frustrating ones, with the Ox one of several Arsenal players particularly guilty of losing possession in indefensible areas.

"We definitely have qualities that are suited to this competition", he added.

"Oxlade loved Arsene Wenger and never blamed him for not improving enough but sometimes it's only about changing the circumstances".

"Now, he's flying, you can see the training at Liverpool that they must do".
