There are reportedly no fire sprinklers on the upper floors of the building, but the Post wrote they're not required by law in buildings of that age (Trump Tower opened in 1983).

New York City in 1999 ended up being last huge city in the country to need sprinklers, inning accordance with the New york city Daily News.

Six firefighters suffered injuries while battling the blaze, which 190 firefighters responded to.

Trump tweeted that the fire was "Very confined (well built building)".

Mr. Trump tweeted shortly after the fire broke out that his building is "well-built". Owners of such older residential high-rises are required to install sprinklers only when the building undergoes major renovations.

Eric Trump, one of the president's sons who also helps head The Trump Organization with headquarters in the tower, tweeted his praise to firefighters.

Trump's family has an apartment on the top floors, but he has spent little time in NY since taking office. The legislation was stimulated on by a significant fire in a so-called "fire-resistant" home block without any sprinklers on NY city's Upper West Side the previous December, and another in a Brooklyn housing project the very same month where corridor sprinklers stopped working.

ABC News reported that the victim, Todd Brassner, was pulled unconscious from his apartment at the luxury Fifth Avenue sky scraper and died later at the hospital. He lived on the 50th floor of the 58-story building.

No members of the First Family were present at the time, according to the Secret Service.

"The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke".

Brassner - a Trump Tower resident identified by USA media as an art dealer - was pronounced dead after being taken to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital, according to police, which said the medical examiner's office would determine the cause of death as part of an ongoing investigation. A firefighter and two other people were injured in the January fire. "The building sure stood up quite wall". 200 firefighters and EMS are on the scene'.
