Commonwealth Games: Shreyasi wins gold in women's double trap shooting

Om Prakash Mitharval scored 201.1 in the 50m pistol final to win bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Wednesday. Jitu Rai finished eighth in the final

Indian shooter Shreyashi Singh shot her career best in women's double trap to increase India's Gold Medal count to 12 by winning the event on Wednesday in Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast. Singh was tied with Cox in the final round, but defeated the Australian in the shoot-off to clinch a gold medal.

The gold medal in the 50m event went to Australia's Daniel Repacholi, who edged out Shakil Ahmed of Bangladesh.

In the morning, shooter Om Prakash finished third to settle for a bronze medal in men's 50m Pistol event. Mittal, who is considered as India's top-ranked shooter when it comes to double trap format won the second bronze medal of the day in double traps men's finals of the CWG. Mittal, having scored 133 after five rounds in qualification, began behind Ashab initially as the finals began but improved to seal bronze. Varsha Varman finished on the fourth position. With the triumphant result, Mittal took the Indian medal tally to 23 medals at Gold Coast.

Shreyasi needed a shootout to trounce her opponent Cox after both aggregated 96 points each.

Om Mitharwal became a double medalist, after Heena Sidhu, as he had bagged Bronze for India with a score of 214.3 in Men's 10m Air Pistol Final on Monday. He had claimed the gold in the 10m air pistol event and was gunning for a similar performance, but could not continue the momentum he has displayed so far in this year's Commonwealth Games.

After being placed sixth at the end of first round of stage 1, Mitharval jumped to the top spot with 93.7.

Mary Kom as of now has the chance to win Silver as she qualfied for the final of the 45-48kg boxing category.

More medals are expected to come as boxers Mary Kom, Vikas Krishan, Gaurav Solanki, Manoj Kumar, Mohammed Hussamuddin, Naman Tanwar and Amit Phangal are all going to take part in medal events.
