In new book, Comey says Trump is 'untethered to truth'

Trump cries “slime ball” after former FBI director slams him

Further, RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel showed the hand that Republicans plan to play ahead of the release of Comey's memoir "A Higher Loyalty" next week and his accompanying media tour to promote it.

The website, which links to several interviews where Democrats criticize Comey, also tries to defend Trump's decision to fire Comey.

Comey sat down with ABC's George Stephanopoulos for a 20/20 special report and made statements he has not previously said publicly that would "certainly add more meat to the charges swirling around Trump", an unnamed source who was present at the taping told Axios for a report Wednesday morning.

At the bottom of the website, a disclaimer says the RNC paid for the website and it was "not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee".

Lyincomey.com focuses on the last point, in particular, featuring quotes from prominent Democrats in 2016 - including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi - that explicitly questioned Comey's credibility and suggested he step down as Federal Bureau of Investigation director. A teaser for the interview says Comey compares Trump to a "mob boss". The White House signed off on the plan, which is being overseen by the Republican National Committee. "If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we'll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility". The talking points call Comey's credibility into question by focusing on what the RNC calls his "long history of misstatements and misconduct". The Justice Department appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel in the Russian Federation probe after it was revealed that Trump had asked Comey to drop the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Many Democrats had reacted with outrage after Comey informed lawmakers of new information related to the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

Trump has called Comey a "leaker", accused him of running "the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation" and used him as a means to challenge the FBI and the Justice Department.
