Knicks dismiss head coach Jeff Hornacek

Report: Knicks dismiss head coach Jeff Hornacek

Knicks' brass. notably president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry. informed Hornacek of their decision late Wednesday night after the team returned from its season finale at Cleveland. Kurt Rambis, the associate head coach under Hornacek, was also relieved of his duties.

The Knicks have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek after his second season with the club, according to several reports. From Wright's perspective, it would be unquestionably lucrative to jump to the Knicks (with his stock never higher than it is today) and, if things went well, he could own the city of NY. During his time as their coach, the Knicks gained their sixth-worst record in the National Basketball Association by going 60-104. The long-time assistant experienced some success in his only head-coaching gig with the Memphis Grizzlies, leading what is now one of the worst teams in the league to the playoffs last season.

Since his playing career, Stackhouse has coached the Toronto Raptors' G-League affiliate, Raptors 905.

Hornacek was hired in 2016 by Phil Jackson and lasted just one more season after Jackson and the team parted ways last summer. NY has won just one playoff series since Van Gundy left early in the 2000-01 season.

David Fizdale, David Blatt, Mark Jackson and Jerry Stackhouse are considered top candidates for the job. Under Mills and Perry, player development will be crucial for the Knicks, who hope to build a young core around Kristaps Porzingis to attract free agents in future offseasons.

The New York Knicks are high on Jay Wright of Villanova and intend to contact him about becoming their next head coach. Overall, Hornacek was 60-104 during his tenure in NY. The Knicks finished this season 29-53, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference. They lost more than 50 games and missed the playoffs both seasons under Hornacek.
