Russell Westbrook Announcer Says He's 'Out Of His Cotton-Picking Mind'

Alex Abrines Russell Westbrook Carmelo Anthony Paul George

Brian Davis said that Thunder star Russell Westbrook was "out of his cotton-picking mind" during the Thunder's 137-123 win against the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Although the Thunder have already punched its ticket into the Western Conference Playoffs, the team is still fighting for playoff position in the loaded wild wild west. "If people could get 20 rebounds every night, they would".

Oklahoma City's lead reached 90-63 on a three-point play by Carmelo Anthony with 7:06 left in the third quarter.

The win was critical - with a loss, the Thunder would have been a No. 8 seed and forced to play No. 1 seed Houston in the first round. Five teams finished within one game of one another, and seeding scenarios entering the evening were all over the place. Although James Harden, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and others have received most of the attention regarding this year's MVP award, Westbrook's numbers have been unbelievable yet again. He thinks the sports media is being hypocritical by not giving him more MVP consideration this year when his numbers are similar to last year's.

After securing 38 rebounds in his final two games, Russell Westbrook became the first player in National Basketball Association history to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons. He also had six points and 19 assists against the Grizzlies to finish the season with averages of 25.4 and 10.3, respectively, in those categories. Only he and Robertson accomplished such sustained overall dominance in the history of the league. So why does it still feel as though his accomplishments aren't being celebrated enough? He lived through the Kevin Durant-Westbrook-James Harden triumvirate and made a finals with the Thunder.

Through it all, it might be argued that Westbrook's season was the most notable in the National Basketball Association this season.

The Brodie, as he's known by, will get the 16 boards required to average a triple-double for another season and he won't give a care about what questions the media asks or what fans and analysts have to say about it.

Westbrook needed just 22 minutes to grab the required 16 rebounds, snaring eight in the opening 11 minutes and hitting double figures before halftime. After all, he has proven his doubters wrong thus far.

The win meant the Thunder grabbed the No.4 seed in the West, pairing them with the Utah Jazz, with game one of that best-of series on Monday morning (NZT).
