Friday of protest in Gaza

H5 palestinians remember slain journalist yaser murtaja

Israeli troops fire teargas at Palestinians during a protest at the Gaza Strip's border with Israel.

A video posted on Facebook by Saada shows that Abu Hussein, who was wearing a vest marked "PRESS" and a helmet, was standing among civilians and taking pictures of the burning of tires from behind the protest when a shot is heard and he fell to the ground.

Islam Herzallah, 28, reportedly died in hospital after he was shot by Israeli troops east of Gaza City.

The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately reply to CPJ's email requesting comment.

"We are deeply disturbed by the tragic loss of life over the past two weeks of protests carried out within the territory of Gaza, with more than a dozen Palestinians killed by sniper fire - including an unarmed teenager and a respected photojournalist - and many hundreds more injured by live ammunition".

GAZA- An explosion in the southern Gaza Strip killed four Palestinians on Saturday, the local health ministry said.

Demonstrators demand that Palestinian refugees be granted the "right of return" to their towns and villages in historical Palestine from which they were driven in 1948 to make way for the new state of Israel. Israel alleges Hamas is using protests as a cover for attacks. "We have no knowledge of any Israeli strike in the area", he said. Israeli troops have shot dead at least 30 Palestinians and wounded hundreds since the protests began, drawing global criticism.

As part of the six-week rallies called "the Great March of Return", which started on March 30, Palestinians held five rallies in eastern Gaza Strip along with the border with Israel to demonstrate. That day will mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment - an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe". "Palestinian women are always at the forefront", she said proudly.

It has pledged to stop attacks, damage to the fence and infiltration bids, and says there have been attempts at all three.

Gaza has been under an Israeli blockade for more than 10 years, while its border with Egypt has also been largely closed in recent years.
