LG Report: Andrew McCabe Repeatedly Leaked And Lied About It

Former FBI Deputy Director Is Faulted in Scathing Inspector General Report

He was under oath when he lied to the FBI agents, the inspector general said in a lengthy new report that could prove devastating to Mr. McCabe's credibility, and to other ongoing investigations. The president went as far to say the two of them were the same person and calling the agency a "den of thieves and lowlifes".

On Friday, Trump - who has publicly lambasted McCabe for both his role in the Clinton probe and the FBI's Russian Federation investigation - called the report a "total disaster" and accused McCabe of being "totally controlled" by former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired in May.

McCabe said he was authorized, as deputy director, to disclose information about the August 2016 call.

"McCabe had claimed after he was sacked that he did not "leak" without authorization and Comey knew about his decision to discuss ongoing investigations with the press".

McCabe "lacked candor" when he talked with then-FBI Director James Comey, the IG report said, or "made statements that led Comey to believe, that McCabe had not authorized the disclosure and did not know who did".

But Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the rush to fire McCabe "casts a tremendous shadow over the integrity of the process".

Mr McCabe has also said his dismissal was part of the Trump administration's "ongoing war" on the FBI and special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation and that he was singled out because of the "role I played, the actions I took, and the events I witnessed in the aftermath" of Mr Comey's firing.

Democrats have emphasized that McCabe's dismissal has nothing to do with the special counsel's investigation into Trump and Russian Federation, while raising questions about the firing.

McCabe berating other Federal Bureau of Investigation officials over the leaks suggests he was "trying to cover his tracks", House Judiciary Committee member Jordan said.

Trump tweeted about McCabe after the report's release.

On Friday morning, Trump tweeted that Comey was "a proven LEAKER & LIAR", a "weak and untruthful slime ball" and "a awful director of the FBI". He said he was authorized to share the information with reporters and had not intentionally misled anyone. Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, called the president "unethical, and untethered to the truth", according to excerpts from the book.

In addition to addressing whether McCabe lacked candor, the OIG's misconduct investigation addressed whether any FBI or Department of Justice policies were violated in disclosing non-public FBI information to the WSJ. Comey wanted him off the call out of an "abundance of caution" because of "appearance issues" following a Wall Street Journal article about political donations to his wife from former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, an ally of Clinton.
