Blizzard Warning For Northeast Nebraska Until 7 PM

Big blizzard headed this way: up to 55 mph winds, 11 inches or more of snow

Significant drifting of the snow is likely.

The snow will move out Saturday night leaving Sunday quieter but cool with highs in the mid 30s.

The weather service issued a blizzard warning for Stanley, Hughes, Sully, Jones, Lyman, Potter, Dewey, Walworth, Campbell and Corson counties, in effect from 4 a.m. Friday, April 13 to 7 p.m.

An April storm is bringing risky winter weather conditions to the upper midwest, making driving unsafe or even impossible in some areas.

Sunday's forecast is for mostly sunny skies, a high of 34 degrees, with north winds of 15-25 miles per hour, gusting to 35.

Lincoln was never supposed to see the worst of this storm, but by noontime Saturday, it appeared the impacts here would be even less than expected. Heavy snow already blanketed parts of western Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota by early afternoon Friday, closing major highways in South Dakota and many roads and highways in western Nebraska - including a 200-mile stretch of cross-country thoroughfare Interstate 80 from North Platte west to the Wyoming border. Damage to power lines may occur. Locally higher amounts will be possible in Northwest Kansas. Lincoln is not included in the Blizzard warning or winter storm watch at this time. Strong winds may create blowing snow and blizzard conditions Friday night and Saturday, and some road closings are expected.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.

A tweet from the Sioux County (Iowa) Sheriff's Office on Friday said, "Please prepare now and be ready to halt travel later Friday & Saturday for a risky winter storm".
