Elon Musk admits that humans are better than robots

Tesla Model 3 out the assembly line is seen in this undated handout

The tech billionaire explained that the recent suspension of production at Tesla's Fremont and Nevada sites were necessary to complete a "comprehensive set of upgrades" that should eventually permit the electric automaker to finally reach and even exceed its lofty Model 3 manufacturing goals.

Tesla has temporarily suspended its Model 3 assembly line as Elon Musks electric vehicle firm struggles to deliver on targets, the media reported on Tuesday.

Tesla Inc. jumped after Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk laid out measures to boost production of his most crucial electric vehicle and rein in expenses to achieve profitability.

Either way, Tesla has orders for an estimated 400,000 Model 3s from customers who can't take delivery, because their cars haven't been built.

The upgrades Tesla are making while idling the plants this week "should set us up for Model 3 production of 3000 to 4000 per week next month", he wrote.

The shutdown of the assembly line was meant to improve automation and systematically address bottlenecks to increase production, a normal move by auto companies, Tesla said on Monday. Tesla Inc is aiming to produce 6,000 Model 3 units per week by the end of June to achieve its target of 5,000 units per week after accounting for a margin of error, Electrek reported, citing CEO Elon Musk's email to employees.

Tomorrow, it will stop work at Fremont, for three to five days. "This means that we will be adding another shift to general assembly, body and paint", said Musk in the email.

Still, the planned production halt points to more than just unlocking production potential; several industry observers indicated that complete stoppages lasting several days are more indicative of persistent problems in assembly, rather than a planned increase in output. The Wall Street consensus is at $320.

While Tesla has been in the news for myriad issues lately, the factor that matters is how the demand for the Model 3 is affected, according to KeyBanc analyst Brad Erickson in a note obtained by TheFly.com.

Analysts polled by Bloomberg expect Tesla to report a loss of $3.35 per share on revenue of $3.345 billion early next month.
