Saudi air strike kills 15 at Yemen wedding

Air strikes in Yemen

At least 33 people were killed and 41 wounded after airstrikes hit a wedding party in northwest Yemen on Sunday night, medic Abdullah Nusari and a municipal official told CNN.

The dead were mostly women and children - including the bride - who were gathered in one of the tents set up for the wedding party in the district of Bani Qayis, according to Khaled al-Nadhri, the top health official in the northern province of Hajja.

The Saudi-led coalition said it would investigate the incident.

This crime comes days after the threat of the coalition spokesman of the US-Saudi aggression, Turki al-Maliki, to launch more brutal strikes against the Yemeni people.

Video footage of a boy who survived the attack spread through social media, showing the child clinging to the body of what appeared to be his deceased father.

"Saudi forces were able to intercept (the missile)", the Saudi Press Agency said, citing the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Huthi rebels.

Yemen's Houthi rebels state their behaving head of condition was murdered in an air strike by the Saudi-led coalition.

A wedding ceremony in Yemen was targeted by Saudi airstrikes as the kingdom continues with its relentless war on the impoverished country. In October 2016, 140 mourners were killed during an air strike on a house in Sanaa.

Earlier this month, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutteres dubbed Yemen's war the world's worst humanitarian crisis with more than 22 million people - three quarters of the population - in desperate need of aid and protection.
