Snap's new Spectacles are slimmer, water-resistant, and still very ugly

Snap Inc. (SNAP) Analysts See $-0.33 EPS on May, 1

It's interesting that Snap has decided, once again, to introduce their spectacles.

Snap has officially launched is next generation Spectacles and while they look near identical to the first version, there are some new features it hopes will convince more people to buy them this time.

Snap is reportedly working on another version of Spectacles, which could have augmented reality or possibly Global Positioning System capability. Moreover, users in the U.S. are able to order prescription Spectacles if they desire. The first generation of the product was widely considered to be a big failure, but it remains to be seen whether the company can learn from its mistakes and deliver a piece of merchandise that actually gains traction rather than fizzling out nearly immediately. Snap was reportedly able to reuse some of the parts in their unsold first generation Spectacles in the latest units. Unfortunately for Snap, that excitement for the product didn't last long, with the company making more devices than they could sell, and reports that owners didn't actually use them for very long.

But Snapchat is as different from Apple as sunglasses are from phones.

First and foremost, the camera's design needed work.

Unlike version 1, v2 fixes numerous pain points of the original Spectacles.

Snap has also sped up transfer speeds when it comes to uploading videos and photos to Snapchat.

The camera company has started to test design tweaks that would combine stories of celebrities with those of users friends on a single page (as it was before the redesign). The company claims transfers to Snapchat will move four times faster now.

The Spectacles are now water-resistant in shallow water as well. The charging case is "splash-proof". They also supposed to boast better audio and the ability to take a photograph with the tap of a button.

Available in the UK, US, Canada and France, priced £150, $150 and €180 respectively, the enhanced specs have a smaller profile thanks to more compact components. Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Polanc, Spain, Italy, and Ireland will get them on May 3.
