Toronto Raptors defeat Washington Wizards in back-and-forth battle

Raptors president Masai Ujiri called on Toronto to come together in the wake of a deadly attack in the city

Wright, who missed his first two shot attempts of the quarter, added three rebounds and two steals in the fourth while making all four free throws.

The Raptors cruised to wins in Games 1 and 2 - by scores of 114-106 and 130-119 - but their figurative wheels fell off when the series switched to Washington for Games 3 and 4. That is a moot point now, as the Raptors defeated the Washington Wizards in a game that is sure to give even the steadiest of nerves a mini-anxiety attack.

It also marked a return to the ball-sharing, three-point shooting style of play that carried them to the NBA's second-best regular-season record, a style that was absent during Sunday's loss.

"He's a tough cover", Casey said. Wright made big play after big play down the stretch and finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists in 26 minutes. "And we just exploited everything individual-wise that we could do, offensively and defensively". They have been out-rebounded in three of five games in this series.

There are others - whether it's Kelly Oubre rebounding from his 1-of-7 shooting from distance in Game 5, finding more minutes for Mike Scott, more touches for Marcin Gortat. "Y'all have seen how we play when our backs are against the wall".

Casey's contention that the Raptors have generally been good away from home is supported by much evidence.

The Wizards led 87-82 with 8:52 remaining in Game 5 when Toronto turned things around with an 8-0 run that saw Wall uncharacteristically get the ball stripped twice.

DeRozan does a good job of maintaining body and ball control going straight up against Wizards' big men and is often rewarded by the referees. Game 7, if necessary, will be back in Toronto.

"Every game is a different game". "We were just more aggressive".

The white-clad Raptors fans stayed on their feet as Wright first hit a three, then scored on a layup on Toronto's next trip down the floor, putting the Raptors up by six with 2:58 to play. Instead, DeRozan was shouldering the scoring load, taking eight of Toronto's 20 field goal attempts in his 13-point quarter, including the team's only three-point make of the quarter (they shot just four).

"I think sometimes we get too caught up in being stagnant and watching, whether it's John, or me, or Otto [Porter Jr.], whoever has the ball, we just get too stagnant, just ball-watching too much", Beal continued.

The series now shifts to Washington for Game 6 where the Raptors will have the chance to close out the series and move on to the Eastern Conference semi-finals. James' Cavaliers likely await the victor of this series; Cleveland plays a Game 6 at IN also Friday night. "We've got to take our attitude of "let them fly" on the road". The two teams, plus the National Basketball Association, are donating to a fund set up to help the families affected by the attack.

DeMar DeRozan scored 32 points as Toronto pulled away over the final few minutes to beat the Wizards 108-98 on Wednesday.

But even with those trends, the Raptors have been a particularly bleak playoff team on the road. Washington ended the half on an 11-5 run, and Beal's three with 10 seconds left cut the Raptors' lead at halftime to just 48-47.

The third quarter provided an opportunity for Wall and DeRozan's sidekicks to come through.
