Saudi man killed in missile salvo from Yemen

Coalition air strike on Yemen's Sanaa kills Houthi leaders: Saudi state tv

Shortly after the funeral began, the rebels said they had launched eight ballistic missiles at "economic and vital targets" in Saudi Arabia's Jizan province.

The Saudi state media also reported that the kingdom-led coalition in an air strike killed two Shiite rebel leaders and dozens of their militiamen in Sanna.

Al-Samad, who held the post of president in the Houthi-backed political body, was the most senior official to be killed by the Western-backed alliance, which had offered a $20-million United States reward for any information that led to Samad's capture.

There was no confirmation from the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels. No casualties were reported.

Al-Arabiya said the strike hit a building belonging to Yemen's Interior Ministry.

The Houthis confirmed the airstrike but did not give more details.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the war in March 2015 in support of Yemen's former Riyadh-friendly government and against the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which is now running state affairs.

Al-Samad was killed alongside his six bodyguards by Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on his residence in the port city of Hudaydah on April 19.

The Saudi state-run information company SPA says its air protection forces intercepted 4 of the missiles and no casualties or damages have occurred.

Tehran blames Saudi Arabia for the devastating Yemen war, which has seen millions struggle to secure food.

Former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed in Sanaa after days of intense fighting between Houthi rebels and his loyalist forces on December 4 previous year.

Almost 10,000 people have been killed since the Saudi-led alliance joined the Yemen conflict, triggering what the United Nations has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Yemeni forces regularly fire ballistic missile at positions inside Saudi Arabia in retaliation for the Riyadh-led campaign.

The blockade has since been partially lifted, but access to the impoverished country remains limited.
