Sharif's 26/11 statement 'grossly misinterpreted': PML-N

Imran Khan termed Nawaz's statement a conspiracy to pressurize Pakistan

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has sparked a firestorm at home and in India after suggesting Pakistani militants were behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks, with the National Security Council slamming his remarks on Monday.

Not only opposition parties, including Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehree-i-Insaf (PTI), launched a frontal attack on Sharif after his statement made headlines at home and overseas, but also leaders belonging to the ruling PML-N didn't endorse his statement. "Explain it to me", he had said, in a clear reference to the Mumbai killings blamed on 10 Pakistani terrorists. "Why can't we complete the trial".

Throwing his weight behind Nawaz, PM Abbasi also reiterated his support for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid.

The PTI chairman went on to say that whole Indian campaign was against Pakistan Army but entire nation is standing along with the country's armed forces. [Russian] President Putin has said it.

"They believe that announcement by the ISPR chief through social media indicated that the military authorities have chose to seriously take up the issue and that they want Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's stance over the matter", the daily said.

The PML-N supreme leader's statement about the November 2008 Mumbai attacks in an interview to a local newspaper has triggered a storm of criticism from people of all social strata, especially politicos.

The Mumbai terror attacks case is being tried in an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan since 2009, but the case isn't going anywhere. Sharif was ousted as prime minister and now disqualified for life to hold political office by the judiciary on charges of corruption, but it is widely believed that the military is egging the courts on.

Claiming that he is calling from Doda, Zargar said that India arrested Ajmal Qasab from Nepal and to defame Pakistan, he was labeled as Mumbai attack mastermind and subsequently hanged.

On Monday, Pakistan's top civil-military body National Security Committee in a meeting said the recent statement made by Sharif was 'incorrect and misleading'. "The participants unanimously rejected the allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions".

On May 11, Sharif in an exclusive interview to a Pakistan daily, The Dawn, had said that terrorists sent by Pakistan were responsible for the 26/11 attacks.

"The Indian Army will have to make sure that India is a safe country", Sitharaman told a press conference here, in response to a query, adding that the Army has to handle firmly any terrorism which threatens peace and harmony of Jammu and Kashmir besides the rest of India also.

"The statements attributed to Sharif are factually incorrect and are being presented in a wrong light by the Indian media".

"Despite our 50,000 sacrifices [of lives], why is the world not paying heed to our narrative? We must look into it", he said.
