Retired 'Coward' Deputy Who Stayed Outside During Parkland Shooting Receives Massive Pension

Despite resigning in disgrace after the Parkland school shooting, former Broward Sheriff's Office deputy Scot Peterson is receiving a generous state pension that will pay him more than he made in his a year ago on the force.

The cop who ducked the Parkland School shooter is getting an $8,702.35 monthly pension, Time magazine reported.

Surveilance video from February 14 showed Peterson waiting outside the school while the shooter went through the halls with an AR-15 rifle shooting and killing students and teachers.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Peterson, 55, began receiving his cushy pension last month after earning $101,879.03 in 2017.

Public records show that Peterson earned $75,673.72 in base salary plus overtime and other compensation a year ago, for a total of $101,879.03. The pension was calculated based on the thirty-two years he spent with the Broward Sheriff's Office and is based on an average of his five highest-paid years.

Peterson's reaction to the deadly school shooting is under police scrutiny and has drawn widespread criticism.

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow died in the shooting, sued Peterson last month and released a statement Tuesday calling Peterson a "disgrace and a coward".

The former officer claimed he believed the shots were coming from outside of the school, by the football field.

Fred Guttenberg, who lost his daughter, Jaime, tweeted that Peterson's pension "infuriates" him in "ways people can not comprehend".

The Sun Sentinel further reported that Peterson will be entitled to these payments for life. Pollack has also targeted Peterson for collecting the hefty monthly pension. He hid while my daughter and 16 others were slaughtered! President Donald Trump branded him a coward, and Sheriff Scott Israel began an investigation into his actions. That money should go to actually securing our schools!

The former Deputy was thrust into the national spotlight after surveillance footage emerged of Peterson taking a "defensive position" and refusing to enter the high school as Nikolas Cruz gunned down students at will.
