Most in United States think opioid abuse is not local — Surgeon general

When an unnamed passenger on a Delta flight to Jackson, Mississippi suffered a medical emergency on Wednesday, a doctor onboard was able to help.

Adams tweeted that a call went out requesting a doctor.

USA surgeon general Dr. Jerome Adams helped during a medical emergency on his Delta Air Lines flight, Wednesday, to Jackson, Mississippi.

"Prior to takeoff, Delta flight 1827 from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta returned to the gate following a customer illness".

Adams is the 20th Surgeon General of the United States.

It was not immediately clear what situation Adams was referring to and what happened on the flight. Adams later reported that the patient was "doing well".

The passenger had lost consciousness before the plane took off. Adams and the nurses helped the passenger until an ambulance arrived.

"Hello, Wow! We certainly thank you for volunteering as well as your service". Adams and two nurses responded.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant praised the anesthesiologist and former IN health commissioner.

According to the Jackson, Mississippi, Clarion Ledger, Adams was headed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson to discuss the opioid epidemic with a panel of experts and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, who praised the doctor for his good deed.
