Trump Lawyer Attended DOJ Meeting On Confidential FBI Informant

Comey defends FBI use of sources

Trump's "spy" comments marked his latest attack on the FBI at a time when he feels mounting pressure from the ongoing investigation by Mueller, appointed past year by the Justice Department, into potential collusion between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation and whether he has committed obstruction of justice.

House and Senate lawmakers from both parties are set to meet with top intelligence officials Thursday as President Donald Trump raises new suspicions about the federal investigation into his 2016 campaign.

The Justice Department announced it will host the first briefing at noon on Thursday with those two Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee, Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif, and Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., followed two hours later by the bipartisan briefing. House Intelligence Committee ranking Democrat Adam Schiff said Flood's involvement was "entirely improper".

The president said "SPYGATE" could be one of the biggest political scandals in history.

Emmet Flood, the White House attorney dealing with the Russian Federation investigation, attended part of the classified briefing and was spotted leaving the DOJ headquarters alongside House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), and White House chief of staff John Kelly. "They will also be sending a awful message to anyone who works in, or with our nation's intelligence community that the White House will always prioritize partisan politics over protecting the people who help keep this country safe". "Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting", Trump stated yesterday.

And given how much politically damaging information federal authorities possessed about the Trump campaign before Election Day - and chose not to disclose - the president's charge does not even make logical sense. Former New York mayor Giuliani recently joined Trump's legal team.

In other Russian Federation comments, Giuliani told ABC News that President Trump ordered another member of his legal team, Emmet Flood, to attend two Justice Department classified briefings on Moscow with legislators.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr also attended the briefing but did not comment afterward.

"I look forward to the prompt completion of the intelligence committee's oversight work in this area now that they are getting the cooperation necessary for them to complete their work while protecting sources and methods", Ryan said.

The second meeting, which will be held on Capitol Hill at 2 p.m., is expected to include Schiff, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. The use of informants is commonplace in counterintelligence and criminal investigations.

"I have a lot of concerns about that", Representative Jerrold Nadler of NY said of the possibility that a lawmaker may have given such information to Trump through back channels. Comey leaked to the press that he had about his meetings with Trump, a move he admitted to Congress was meant to provoke the appointment of a special counsel.

"Can anyone even imagine having Spies placed in a competing campaign, by the people and party in absolute power, for the sole goal of political advantage and gain?"

Rudy Giuliani said no final decision will be made on President Trump sitting down with special counsel Robert Mueller until "the details of this "Spygate" situation" are figured out.

Over the weekend, the president demanded the Department of Justice to start an investigation into the matter.

The informant, an American academic who served in past Republican administrations, approached at least three Trump campaign advisers who had been in contact with suspected Russian agents.
