Andrew Lincoln Is Reportedly Leaving 'The Walking Dead'

Andrew Lincoln has headed up the cast of AMC's zombie drama The Walking Dead since it started back in 2010, playing group leader Rick Grimes.

The Walking Dead Season 8 finale saw the epic battle between Rick's band of survivors and Negan's Saviors, with Rick sparing Negan's life.

Series showrunner Scott Gimple was promoted to a role that oversees "The Walking Dead" and its spinoff, "Fear the Walking Dead", with writer Angela Kang filling his role.

According to the same report, AMC is looking into placing Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in the lead role.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC for Season 9 this fall.

Lincoln isn't the only actor who could be leaving the series. Marvel has already green lit a sequel to Black Panther. The actor has played protagonist Rick Grimes since the pilot episode and is reported to only be appearing in six Season 9 episodes.

In the next chapter of the hugely popular post-apocalyptic story he's only set to appear in about six episodes. Rick, Carl, and Maggie are all still alive in the comic book series that the show is based on.

Lincoln's exit will come shortly after the departures of two of the show's few remaining original cast members, Chandler Riggs and Lennie James.

All that said, AMC can probably expect a big boost in the ratings on the night Lincoln makes his exit. "The differences that people will be seeing in season nine and beyond are going to be pronounced. I don't know but certainly I really think the fans and my character deserves an end point as some time in the future". There is no word of how the character is going to leave, but no matter what, it's going to make a huge impact on the series.
