North Korean envoy to meet USA secretary of state Pompeo

Kim Jong-un commits to North Korea denuclearization as U.S. delegation arrives

Kim Jong-un's right-hand man will fly to NY on Wednesday to meet with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as part of preparations for the meeting between the North Korean leader and Donald Trump in Singapore next month.

The general has always been a right-hand man to North Korea's leader, playing a front-seat role during recent rounds of diplomacy aimed at ending the nuclear stalemate on the Korean peninsula.

North Korean general Kim Yong-Chol is in Washington to try and revive the summit between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump. Moon said he told Kim that Trump has a "firm resolve" to end hostile relations with North Korea and initiate economic cooperation if Kim implements "complete denuclearization".

He sat on the Supreme Leader's right during his first meeting with South Korean president Moon Jae-in at the Inter-Korean summit at the end of April, and hosted a visiting South Korean art troupe the same month.

He was set to fly to Washington on Tuesday but changed his plan, deciding leave for NY on Wednesday, which came amid speculations he could have met Chinese authorities during this interval.

Choe Kang Il, a North Korean foreign ministry official involved with North America issues, was also spotted at Beijing Capital International Airport, according to Yonhap. USA officials familiar with planning said he was scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday.

Simultaneously, Kim met Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and, according to official news agency KCNA, said the North's "will for denuclearization of the Korean peninsula still remains unchanged and consistent and fixed". "The Secretary will be heading up to NY tomorrow and I believe returning sometime on Thursday".

When Kim Chang-son was asked by a reporter at Beijing airport if he was flying to Singapore for talks with the U.S., he said he was "going there to play", according to footage from Nippon Television Network.

Kim, one of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's most trusted aides, is a former military intelligence chief and now a vice chairman of the ruling party's central committee.

US diplomatic officials with expertise in nuclear issues are talking to the Pyongyang team led by Choe Son Hui, vice foreign minister, at Tongilgak, a building inside the North Korean side of Panmunjom.

Since then, North Korea has rejected USA demands for it to unilaterally abandon its nuclear program, which experts say could threaten the United States.

Trump successfully negotiated North Korea's release of three American hostages earlier this month.

Trump withdrew from a planned June 12 summit with Kim Jong-un last Thursday, citing hostile North Korean comments, but has since said the meeting in Singapore could still happen.

Trump confirmed Tuesday that Kim was to hold talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Still Trump tweeted that he believes the summit can move forward, and Kim, through the state-run news service, expressed a "fixed will" on the talks happening.

The Koreas have agreed to put high-level discussions back on track with a meeting on Friday. After a round of talks on Monday, the two sides met again on Tuesday, presumably to discuss details, including specific timelines, on how the global community will ensure security for Kim's regime if it relinquished its nuclear arsenal.

Since the 1970s, the United States and South Korea have been holding a major summertime exercise called Ulchi Freedom Guardian that involves tens of thousands of troops.

"Meetings are now taking place concerning Summit, and more".

Keep in mind that administration surrogates often don't know what is going on, the president is not a reliable indicator of what his own administration is up to, and South Korea's optimistic spin on North Korea's intentions can depart substantially from Pyongyang's actual position.

The United States has demanded the "complete, verifiable, and irreversible" dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear weapons programme. Mr. Moon said Sunday that the North's disarmament could be still be a hard process even if Pyongyang, Washington and Seoul don't differ over what "complete denuclearization" of the peninsula means.
