Will give full pardon to Dinesh D'sourza, says Trump

PARDON ME Conservative filmmaker and author Dinesh D'Souza speaks during the final day of the 2014 Republican Leadership Conference

Instead, he was sentenced to five years of probation and eight months in a "community confinement center" and ordered to pay a $30,000 fine.

Prosecutors said D'Souza had other individuals donate money to Republican Wendy Long, a Republican challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in 2012, under an agreement that he would reimburse them for the donations. "And a lot of people did, a lot of people did".

The reprieve of Arpaio, who was convicted of federal misdemeanor criminal contempt after a judge found he had defied a court order to stop targeting Latinos with sweeps of suspected undocumented immigrants, renewed criticism of the president's handling of racially charged issues.

"As with the pardon of Joe Arpaio, Trump is sending a message that he will reward political allies for loyalty with get-out-of-jail-free cards", Democratic U.S. Representative Don Beyer said on Twitter.

Urban said that attorneys by nature are "political animals".

Attorneys Deborah Blum and Seth Berenzweig on President Trump considering pardons for Martha Stewart and Rod Blagojevich and the fallout from ABC canceling Roseanne. "But that's okay, I don't view it that way".

Mr Trump has pardoned other notable conservatives convicted of various offences. "Not at all", the official said.

CBS-2 Chicago reports Blagojevich's lawyer plans to file a formal petition for a commutation of sentence in the next few weeks. "When they can't prove a crime, they create one".

Most people remember the Martha Stewart case as being about insider trading. Both appeared with Trump on his show "The Apprentice".

"Dinesh D'Souza was convicted of one of the crimes Michael Cohen is under investigation for, campaign finance fraud", Joyce Vance, a former US attorney, tweeted.

The president, who has never met D'Souza or spoken to him, last night called him on the phone to inform him about his decision.

The day's pardon action began early Thursday, as Trump tweeted: "Will be giving a Full Pardon to Dinesh D'Souza today".

Former US attorney Preet Bharara defended D'Souza's conviction on Thursday.

Mr. D'Souza is the author of almost 20 books and producer of four movies, with the latest one being "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party".

During his plea hearing in 2014, D'Souza acknowledged wrongdoing.

"D'SOUZA also admitted that he knew that what he was doing was wrong and something the law forbids", the statement read. "So I don't in that sense regret my experience", he said.

Preet Bharara, the US attorney in Manhattan who oversaw D'Souza's case, tweeted, "The President has the right to pardon but the facts are these: D'Souza intentionally broke the law, voluntarily pled guilty, apologized for his conduct & the judge found no unfairness. The career prosecutors and agents did their job".

Also pardoned was former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. There is no such systematic review by the Trump White House.

D'Souza is a best-selling author and successful filmmaker who served as an adviser in the Reagan administration.

He also has pardoned Navy sailor Kristian Saucier, who had taken photos of classified portions of a submarine. He is scheduled for release in 2024.

"This kind of legal bludgeoning tactic is used not only against the guilty, but against the innocent", he said, explaining that the pardon will give him back his right to vote.

Then he said he's strongly considering commuting the sentence of IL ex-Gov.

Talking to reporters on board Air Force One, Trump said Blagojevich did something that "lots of politicians" do, adding his prison sentence was excessive for merely saying something dumb.
