Televangelist seeks donations for $54M private jet, would be his fourth

Jesse Duplantis the Destrehan-based prosperity gospel televangelist is shown in a still image from a video on his ministry's website

"We're believing God for a brand new Falcon 7X, so we can go anywhere in the world in one stop", Duplantis said in the video message.

This will be the 68-year-old preacher's fourth plane - as for the three other jets, he's "used them, just burning them up for Jesus Christ".

Duplantis believes the new jet will allow his ministry to travel globally to spread the gospel without having to refuel.

In a video recently published on his website, Duplantis says the planes get him closer to the Lord - both literally and figuratively - and he had a divine conversation in which Jesus asked for the new aircraft by name. "Think about that for a minute. He'd be in an aeroplane preaching the gospel all over the world".

Standing beside framed pictures of his current fleet, he said that the jet he bought 12 years ago was no longer sufficient for his ministry because he could not fly non-stop, meaning he had to pay "exorbitant" refuelling costs.

God wants him to have that jet, says Duplantis.

A televangelist has called on his followers to buy him a $54m (£40m) private jet because "if Jesus was on Earth today he wouldn't be riding a donkey".

Dassault, who makes the three-engine Falcon 7X, describe it as "the benchmark for the 21st century business jet". And with a ride like that, spreading the word of God would be a piece of pie, as Duplantis claimed. "He said, 'You want to come up where I am at?'" If I can do it for one stop, I can fly it for a lot cheaper because I have my own fuel farm. I can't live long enough to travel by auto. He then asked his followers to "pray about becoming a partner to it".

In 2015 Texas televangelist Kenneth Copeland purchased a Gulfstream V jet for $36 million.

But if they're still not sold on the idea, Duplantis had one more thought.

"You can't manage that today", he said.

Watching the video requires registering on the Jesse Duplantis Ministries website. "You get in a long tube with a bunch of demons, and it's deadly".
