Iran told the U.N. it's increasing its nuclear enrichment capacity

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is interviewed by The Associated Press in New York

Obama, Merkel, Macron, Netanyahu and other world leaders speak out after U.S. President President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Iran deal.

But he also said Iran will continue adhering to the 2015 nuclear deal and that the country's nuclear activities will remain within the limits set by the accord.

That document, examined by The Times, is dated by Israel to 2001 and authorizes the Iranian military to enrich uranium hexafluoride (UF6) by centrifuges from three percent to more than 90 percent - levels which suggest that Iran meant to build a nuclear weapon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kicked off a three-day trip on Monday to persuade the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to abandon the Iran nuclear deal, meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin to discuss the threat he says Tehran poses to his country and the wider Middle East.

Katz addressed Tehran's threat to restart uranium enrichment at an "industrial level" if the 2015 pact falls apart.

"If the Iranians don't surrender now, and try to return" to unsupervised uranium enrichment, "there should be a clear statement by the president of the United States and all of the Western coalition".

Iran denies it has ever sought nuclear weapons, which require uranium enriched to 90 per cent.

Iranian officials have already warned that Tehran too would quit the deal and start enriching uranium again if it can no longer see any economic benefit from sticking to the agreement.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said yesterday that he had ordered preparations to increase uranium enrichment capacity if a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers falls apart after the USA withdrawal from it last month.

In exchange, Iran received relief from sanctions, most of which were rescinded in January 2016.

At the same time, relations between Israel and Iran have dramatically escalated over the latter's alleged military presence in Syria, being further exacerbated by a suspected Israeli attack in the suburbs of Syria's Damascus against arms depots, which according to Tel Aviv belonged to Tehran's Revolutionary Guards.

But President Trump dramatically pulled out of the agreement, leaving the remaining European signatories scrambling to save it. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. would re-impose its sanctions on Iran. The JCPOA allows Iran to pursue a peaceful nuclear program for commercial, medical and industrial purposes in line with global non-proliferation standards. "We will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons". The people of Iran and the government of Iran will never tolerate both suffering from sanctions and nuclear restrictions.

"If we were progressing normally, it would have taken six or seven years, but this will now be ready in the coming weeks and months", Salehi said.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, yesterday began a three-tour of Europe with the aim of convincing the signoratories to back out of the accord and support his push for tighter measures on Tehran.
