Trump and Kim sign unspecified documents

Trump leaving summit with North Korea early as talks go quicker than planned

Former U.S. National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman arrived in Singapore late on Monday for a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying he was "excited to be part of it".

"I think he loved it", Trump said, referring to Kim.

Singapore spent close to $15m to cover the North Korean leader's accommodation, logistics of the meetings, as well as overall security of the two world leaders.

He developed a relationship of sorts with the dictator, despite much criticism that he was being used for PR by the Kim regime and that he was, at best, showing kindness to a murderous autocrat, and, at worst, being developed as a North Korea intelligence asset.

When pressed for a breakdown on the summit expenses, he said, "I think if you calculate the price of everything in this world, you will miss out the really important things".

There was shock, relief, worry as the world watched Trump and Kim, who just a few months ago were insulting each other's mental and physical prowess and threatening nuclear war. While Kim is staying at the St Regis Hotel that has been converted into a fortress ahead of June 12, Trump is reportedly staying at Shangri-La Hotel.

Light on specifics, the document largely amounted to an agreement to continue discussions as it reiterated previous public statements and past commitments.

Shortly before the leaders met, Moon's chief of staff wrote on Facebook that the summit reminded him of his child's birth.

In their first moments of meeting each other, US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un both sought to project a sense of command as they began a historic summit in Singapore, according to a body language expert.

Despite the unprecedented rapprochement between the two countries, the North Koreans have maintained a tight security presence around their leader. South Korea contributes, but not 100 percent, which is a subject that we have to talk to them about also.

Asked whether he would invite Kim to the White House, Trump said: "Absolutely, I will".

Should they succeed in making a diplomatic breakthrough, it could bring lasting change to the security landscape of Northeast Asia, like the visit of former U.S. President Richard Nixon to China in 1972 led to the transformation of China.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo signalled on June 11 that the Trump administration didn't expect an immediate breakthrough at the Trump-Kim meeting, but rather hoped it would create an opening for more extended negotiations. "I call them war games", he said.

"I believe it's a rough situation over there, there's no question about it and we did discussed it today pretty strongly", Trump said in response to a question from ABC News chief White House correspondent Jon Karl.

President Trump says North Korea's Kim Jong Un has made an "unwavering commitment" to complete denuclearization after an historic meeting in Singapore. We'll be doing something on it.
