Singapore can benefit if North Korea opens up

North Korea will not get any sanctions relief until it has demonstrated "complete denuclearisation", US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.

The US president, Donald Trump, and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, issued a joint statement after their Singapore meeting reaffirming the North's commitment to "work toward complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula", while Trump "committed to provide security guarantees".

Though it is shown from the North Korean perspective, the documentary largely shows Trump in a flattering light - at one point Ri describes the president and Kim as "two supreme leaders" of their countries.

Trump dodged trying to say North Korea was a "tough country" with "tough people".

"I would like to express my gratitude to President Trump".

"There are significant gaps between the American declarations before the summit regarding the need for a "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization, ' and the joint statement's language which only included a 'complete denuclearization" of North Korea", the document continued. He said both sides had agreed that sanctions would not be eased until that's achieved.

Trump has touted his meeting with Kim as a historic move that significantly lessened tensions with Pyongyang. But for the rest of us who are watching and know the history of North Korea, we should be skeptical. "We can schedule this meeting regardless of global events between our foreign ministries", he said.

"The streets were crowded with wellwishers who were full of reverence for Chairman Kim, who has come to lead world politics with his extraordinary political acumen", she said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told CNN that Trump's eyebrow-raising defense of Kim's authoritarian tactics is fine so long as a peaceful resolution in the region can be reached.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday invited North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia in September.

Trump's announcement minutes after the summit's conclusion that he would halt the "provocative" joint military drills were a shock to South Korea and caught much of the USA military off guard, too.

Even though China wasn't part of the talks, the country still came out ahead thanks to President Donald Trump's vow to end USA military drills with South Korea.

So Pompeo had some explaining to do as he traveled to Seoul to brief the allies on what transpired in Singapore. That kind of thing is very threatening to North Korea.

Speaking at a news conference in Seoul alongside South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, the US secretary of state said the Trump administration would not repeat the mistakes made by past presidents that rewarded Pyongyang for denuclearization promises.

The announcement marked a dramatic reversal from the United States's past rejection of China's "freeze-for-freeze" proposal, which called for an end to the military exercises in exchange for a cease to the North's weapons tests. And on Trump's behest, they've cooperated with United Nations sanctions on the country. The next scheduled major exercise, involving tens of thousands of troops, normally would be held in August.

After reassuring American allies Japan and South Korea this morning in Seoul, he flew to Beijing, where he said the USA would consider making a call to lift economic sanctions on the North. Pompeo said Thursday that the White House is looking for "major disarmament" within Mr. Trump's first term, which leaves two and a half years.
