Deputies search for suspects in rapper XXXTentacion slaying

Rapper XXXTentacion reportedly shot to death in Florida

Us Weekly confirmed his death after the Broward Sheriff's Department tweeted that the "adult male that was taken to the hospital has been pronounced dead".

In the August video, the 20-year-old hip-hop star denied he was dead after a stunt in which he made it seem as if he'd hanged himself.

Before authorities released the name of the victim, citing the need to identify his next of kin, TMZ published a video of a man it reported as XXXTentacion who was slouched in the driver's seat of a vehicle and surrounded by onlookers as sirens blazed nearby.

Troubled rapper-singer XXXTentacion was shot and killed Monday in Florida in what police called an apparent robbery attempt. Authorities say XXXTentacion was shot outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership Monday afternoon. At least one of the suspects fired, and then both fled the scene in a dark SUV.

On Twitter, his peers expressed shock and sadness.

Kanye West was among some of the first to take to social media: 'rest in peace I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing'.

The victim was identified as XXXTentacion, whose birth name is Jahseh Onfroy, according to a tweet from the Sheriff's Office. In March, a judge released him from house arrest so that he could tour.

"He had some legal allegations before, but the past year he had only been a positive influence on people's lives, making hit Billboard songs", O'Hara said.

The rapper is now awaiting trial on domestic violence charges and was recently freed by a judge after being incarcerated for witness tampering in the case.

Back in April, Spotify recently came under fire after they removed all of his music from their curated playlist.

Videos of what appeared to be Onfroy unresponsive in the driver seat of a auto circulated on social media Monday.

Rapper J Cole hailed the star's "enormous talent and limitless potential".
