Paul McCartney takes James Corden on 'Carpool Karaoke' tour of Liverpool

Paul McCartney sings an emotional 'Hey Jude' with James Corden in 'Carpool Karaoke'

James Corden and The Late Late Show spent the week in London, and to celebrate his time in his home country, the host invited music icon Paul McCartney to join him for an epic new installment of "Carpool Karaoke."

After getting back in the auto, Corden says Sir Paul's music is "so full of positivity and joy", and "more relevant now today than it's maybe ever been". So I woke up and I went 'What was that?

"Oh man, it got me emotional there", Corden said. "She said, 'Let it be.' I've never heard that, that's kind of good.' So I wrote the song 'Let It Be, ' but it was her positivity".

At the end, he performs a surprise gig to very lucky crowd in a Liverpool pub. I felt so bad when it came out in the press - "Foo Fighters had a awful time, they hated the whole fucking thing". "And it keeps being relevant". Along the way, he discussed the inspirations behind and places where he wrote classic songs, showing Corden the room in which he and John Lennon used to rehearse "She Loves You", and how McCartney's dad thought the chorus should sound less American and they should sing, "She loves you/Yes, yes, yes", instead of the very American "Yeah, yeah, yeah".

"I've never been in since I lived there", Sir Paul says. They cycled through "A Hard Day's Night", "Love Me Do" and "Back the USSR", as onlookers filled the pub.

"If my granddad were here right now, he'd get an absolute kick out of this", Corden added, with tears still in his eyes.

Even Corden himself agreed that it was his favourite edition of the show to date.

The segment started with Corden seated in his vehicle before making a phone call and channelling one of The Beatles' best-known hits. "We're going to give the locals the surprise of their life", teased Corden.
