Saudi Arabia stuns Egypt 2-1 in World Cup farewell

World Cup 2018 Saudi Arabia Egypt Play For Pride In Group A Dead Rubber

Saudi Arabia pulled off a last-gasp 2-1 win over Egypt as the two sides departed from Russian Federation on Monday, with the Saudis notching their first World Cup victory since 1994 and adding to the misery of Egypt's prolific striker Mohamed Salah.

"I just want to say that Egypt reached the World Cup after 28 years, some players here do not have the required experience". He died on Monday after Egypt lost 2-1 against Saudi Arabia. The match between Group A's two already-eliminated sides had everything: fight, emotion, goals, broken records and a dramatic twist at the end.

He opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he raced on to Abdallah Said's long pass and kept his cool to lob Saudi goalkeeper Yasser Al-Mosailem.

In the first match of Day 12 of the FIFA World Cup saw Egypt taking on Saudi Arabia in one of the two matches from Group A to start simultaneously.

There have been suggestions that Salah will quit the Egypt team following the conclusion of the World Cup.

El-Hadary got the chance to show he's learned something in his 45-plus years in the game's 40th minute when he rejected Saudi Arabia forward Fahad Almuwallad's penalty shot.

The Green Falcons were, however, awarded another spot-kick in first-half injury-time when Al-Muwallad was adjudged to have been dragged down inside the area by Ali Gabr and, upon consultation with the Video Assistant Referee, the award stood.

Essam El Hadary became the oldest player in World Cup history on Monday and marked the occasion with a penalty save.

El Hadary also made a series of good saves in the second half to deny Saudi Arabia, notably in the 69th minute when he tipped a header from Hussain Almoqahwi over the bar.

The win, settled by midfielder Salem Al-Dawsari's angled strike in the 95th minute, meant Saudi Arabia finished third in Group A, scoring their only goals in Russian Federation and putting behind them an opening day 5-0 thrashing by the hosts.

Cavani sealed the win with a tap in from close range for his first World Cup goal.
