Apple launching new AirPods, HomePod in 2019

Report Apple is working on noise-canceling Air Pods and over-ear headphones

A report by Bloomberg suggests that apart from the addition of features to the AirPods, Apple will also be launching studio-quality over-ear headphones, as well as an update to it's relatively unsuccessful Google Home and Amazon Echo competitor, the HomePod. Next year's pair is apparently going to be blessed with noise cancellation and water resistance.

Additionally, the new 2019 AirPods could feature noise cancellation, as well as some type of biometric sensors.

Apple is reported to be preparing for the launch of the brand's next-gen AirPods headphones, which are likely to be revealed next year. When the earbuds first came out in 2016, they were delayed, and there was limited supply after the product finally went on sale. However, users won't be able to swim wearing them.

Of course, Apple-owned Beats already produces a wide range of over-ear headphones. These are supposed to cost more than the current models that cost $159 and could be coming in 2019. An in-house audio-product team is run by Gary Geaves, formerly an engineer from B&W Group Ltd., a maker of speaker systems and headphones.

New AirPods will have active noise cancelling, as well as protection from moisture for fitness and enhanced sound quality when playing music - with the last two faults bound most of the complaints about this product. Bloomberg's report does indicate a delay for the over-ear models, though, which were originally rumored to be released before the end of 2018 back in March.

The report also notes that the current AirPods are set to get a slight revamp this year, with a new chip and hands-free "Hey Siri" support, however it's not certain whether production will continue to be provided by Inventec Corp, notes 9to5Mac. The "AirPower" charging mat will be capable of powering up the iPhone X, Apple Watch, and the next-gen AirPods as well as select future Apple devices. They will use Apple branding and be a higher-end alternative to the company's Beats line.

A new version of the HomePod speaker is also under development, sources say.

Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
