Bubba Watson shoots 63 to rally for 3rd Travelers title

Paul Casey speaks with the media after his third round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands

Perhaps just one a year after wallowing through a game that had seemingly left him, one in which he finished 91st on tour in strokes gained overall, Watson will pull off something he's never done - taking home PGA Tour Player of the Year honors. He's previously 1-for-3 converting, shooting even-par 72 at the 2009 Houston Open, eventually winning his first TOUR title in a playoff.

Watson overcame a six-stroke deficit Sunday to win his third Travelers Championship title, shooting a 7-under 63 for a three-stroke victory. After opening in 65-67, the ASU product began T5, two back of leader Brian Harman. He broke out of the pack by hitting all 18 greens, and he has a streak of 23 straight greens in regulation heading into today.

The Englishman had six birdies and an eagle - at the signature par-4 15th hole - to reach 16-under 194. He posted 1.611 putts per GIR and 2.786 SG: Putting with 29 total putts.

That win bumps him up two spots to No. 5 in the Ryder Cup USA standings and keeps him firmly in position to pick up one of the eight automatic qualifier spots for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Two elite players, two-time major victor Zack Johnson and three-time major victor Jordan Spieth, were tied for the lead at 7-under par. He is eight under for the tournament. "I played really well this week, just some stupid mistakes, just mental errors". "Around here there are a lot of driver holes where I can hit some drivers and shape it". Koepka said after Saturday's round that he would blitz the course and make a run up the Travelers leaderboard.

"I feel like my game's good enough to be out here full-time and kind of confirms that with the way I've been playing this week and past year here as well", he said.

PULHEIM, Germany - Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard shot a 5-under 67 to equal the week's lowest round and was part of a six-way tie for the lead entering the final round of the BMW International Open.

Casey got off to the ideal start when he rolled in a 12-foot putt for birdie at the second and holed another from half that range at the next, and after a further gain at the eighth, he capped an outward 31 with a 20-footer for his fourth birdie of the round at nine.

Nico Geyger (73) and Mikko Korhonen (69) were tied for seventh at 4 under. That tied for the second-best front nine in the tournament's history.

Bryson DeChambeau moved back into the top 8 with his T-9 finish in CT.

Travelers Championship Director Nathan Grube said attendance was slightly higher in 2018 compared to a year ago based on gate and parking entry and concession and merchandise sales.

Third-ranked Lexi Thompson matched the low round of the day with a 64 to get to 11 under and was alone in third.
