Kawhi Leonard adamant about trade, Spurs unwilling to budge

Lakers Rumors: LA's Pitch to Sign Paul George Has Been Revealed

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne, "pressure is mounting" on Magic Johnson and his front-office staff with the Lakers to execute a deal with the Spurs before Friday's deadline for James to exercise the contract clause that would enable him to hit the open market.

Right now, it's a wait and see game between Paul George and where he will choose and LeBron James who will likely make his decision after other big moves have been made. The most challenging obstacle could be finding a way to acquire Kawhi Leonard. He's also strongly hinted that he wants to sign with the Lakers when he hits free agency next season, so he could be an expensive one-year rental for whomever wins the Kawhi sweepstakes.

The thinking in Los Angeles is if the Lakers can acquire Leonard, it increases their chances at luring James and/or George as well. "Our goal is to keep him as part of our program for a long time".

James, though, may be trying to talk George out of staying put. Below is the script, which reportedly was set to play over a video.

There is concern that Paul George may be leaning towards re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which makes trading for Leonard more necessary for the Lakers to secure a commitment from James. Meanwhile, current Spurs player Pau Gasol recently spoke on Leonard's future, noting that he doesn't think any amount of money will fix the Spurs-Leonard relationship.

On Tuesday, Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson laughed off the idea of being anxious about the pressure to bring superstars to Los Angeles, citing the number of NBA Finals he played in.

James already has two homes in Los Angeles, so there are plenty of non-basketball-related reasons to think that he may well decide to take his considerable talents there.

Another preference by James that could impact free agency, league sources said, is that he wants to make a decision quickly in July free agency.
