Serena Williams Says That If She Gets Pregnant Again She'll Step Away From Tennis For Good

While Williams has previously held the world number 1 rank, she is now 183rd - a result of playing just three professional events in the past year due to her recent pregnancy.

"But it's just not fair if there is a player [who misses out] and it's me now".

The All England Club usually follows the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, but it does have the right to make alterations in the interest of producing a "balanced draw".

The question for tournament officials, however, is how to strike that balance between elevating a returning player whose ranking has dropped over rivals who have surged ahead of her in the rankings. I have the right and I should be seeded and if they put her in front of me then I will just lose my spot that I am supposed to have.

The tennis great said earlier this week that pregnancy should not be penalized when it comes to tournament seeding.

Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki lead the way, they can face the defending champion Garbine Muguruza or the US Open victor Sloane Stephens in the semifinals.

While WTA rules allow women who miss time because of a pregnancy to enter events based on their pre-absence ranking, there is no guarantee of a seeding, a policy which has been the subject of much debate in recent months because of Williams' status. "I have tried and I should be seeded".

"Having won so many Grand Slams and being number one for so many years, she deserves a seeding".

Wimbledon will release the draw on Friday.

Williams could face one of the top eight seeds in round three of Wimbledon, where she lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish in 2015 and 2016.

No unseeded woman has won the Wimbledon singles championship.

Wimbledon doesn't start until July 2, but new mom Serena Williams has already scored a victory. "She wants to continue to play".

At 17 after her first Grand Slam title, the U.S. Open.

The American was due to face old foe Maria Sharapova in a mouthwatering fourth-round clash at Roland Garros before injury struck. At that point, most analysts said Williams had improved at each stage but had not reclaimed her peak form.
