Lonzo Ball could be reason the Lakers don't get Kawhi Leonard

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The Lakers are reportedly using the Kyrie Irving and Paul George trades as a framework for their offer, though San Antonio wants more given the expectation that the deal will seal James joining the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are the teams most often reported as the top Leonard suitors.

With NBA free agency about to explode there are plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors to sort through. According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, the Spurs and Lakers are talking Leonard again. San Antonio could, theoretically, hold out until just before the start of the season. However, their approach was rebuffed as the Spurs seem to have no interest in dealing with a Western Conference rival.

As for James, the 33-year-old looks increasingly likely to not exercise his player option and become an unrestricted free agent next month.

Multiple teams have reportedly made trade offers to the Spurs for Leonard, who can't opt out of his contract until next year.

That could mean luring James and George, who has had his eye on the Lakers for some time now. With that being said, there is a very high chance that most, if not all, of the free agents this summer will walk away from the Lakers.

The Cavaliers can offer James the most money under National Basketball Association rules, a five-year deal worth $209 million, and he could also sign a short-term deal.

The former Finals MVP disagreed with both the diagnosis and treatment of the injury, eventually seeking an alternative opinion from a doctor of his own choosing - Dr Jonathan Glashow, who also moonlights at the Sixers' chief medical officer. They were a lot younger the last time I made a decision like this four years ago (when he returned to Cleveland after four seasons with the Miami Heat).

Magic Johnson said earlier this week that he'd step down as team president if the Lakers can't land some big-name free agents by next summer. Those assets included Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, two future first-round picks, and possibly even Julius Randle in a sign-and-trade.
