Luka Doncic Trying to Recruit DeAndre Jordan to Mavs With Instagram Follow

DeAndre Jordan, the last remaining piece of the original "Lob City" squad that launched the Los Angeles Clippers to relevancy, has "verbally agreed" to a one-year, $24.1-million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to the New York Times' Marc Stein.

The Mavericks almost landed Jordan in free agency three years ago, but he re-signed with the Clippers after several teammates, including Paul and Griffin, virtually held him hostage in his Houston-area home until he reneged on a verbal agreement on a four-year, $87-million contract with Dallas.

Wojnarowski further reports that Jordan and the Dallas Mavericks are "prepared to partner together". The mechanism is different, but Jordan's goals are accomplished: he gets his money and his contract year, he gets to try again in the supposedly free agent-friendly summer of 2019, and he gets the ideal team to amplify his skills and raise his value.

Going back to Nowitzki, the sweet-shooting power forward is not going anywhere despite the cancellation of this contract.

The deal happened and Dallas Mavericks fans are excited, for good reason.

The Warriors had also reportedly been interested in possibly signing Jordan.

The one-year deal gives both sides flexibility beyond next season, but is a sign that the Mavericks are exhausted of rebuilding after consecutive losing seasons for the first time in almost 20 years.

Circumstances are much different now, with the former All-Stars who helped persuade Jordan to stay no longer around. The Clippers traded Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons last winter and Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets last summer.

Harrison Barnes, Wesley Matthews, Seth Curry, JJ Barea, and the aging but still effective Dirk Nowitzki will be returning for the Mavericks next season. Smith Jr. and Doncic can be the kick starters for a run and gun offense. In the end, Dallas didn't need to send anything to Los Angeles to acquire its man. He averaged 12 points per game last season.
